Xmas in July
Well, good things come to those who wait! We finally got away for our prepaid July weekend. Approximately 70 members attended from four clubs:
Buick, Oldsmobile, Packard and CHACA.
11.30: We arrived at our accommodation cabins on the lake.
We thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful scenery and soaked up relaxing mood of the Lake. The birds were enjoying their surrounds.
12.30pm: We all enjoyed Pizzas, either seated, inside the warm cafe or out on the decking. Avon, the chef and Nicole, his helper, at Discovery Park, made sure there was enough for everyone to share, with about 4 pizzas left over. It was great for the 4 clubs to come together and mix. Tea and Coffee station supplied free.
1.30pm: Half the Group of 65 went for the first boat ride, which lasted for an hour. The skipper had a great friendly and comical personality and he pointed out features of the area. He had grown up in Nagambie. Some passengers chose to sit up stairs and some had run out of seating. So luckily, they we rugged up to get through the hour of a very cold cruise.
2.30pm: The second half headed off on their adventure.
3.30pm: We enjoyed free time and some went to the IGA to buy alcoholic refreshments for Christmas dinner, as you could BYO.
6.00pm. We met at the Function Centre for Christmas Dinner.
Esther and her friends, had set all the tables up beautifully with a Christmas theme, lots of table decorations and chocolates. Dinner was a beautifully cooked Roast Pork and Turkey with our favourite vegetables and GF Gravy which catered for all.
The Chef at Discovery Park and staff, including Megan, from the Goulburn Explorer, had made a beautiful Dinner and served us very well.
Dessert was either individual plum puddings & custard, or Lemon Tarts.
Tea and Coffee was set up for all to help themselves.
Official Duties: Firstly, was to thank the 4 Club Presidents, for their Donations towards the Prizes for the Raffles.
Entertainment: Esther and those on the Social Committee and those roped in to help, entertained us with dress up plays of great songs of the 50s and 60s. Each table had to guess which song they were acting out.
“No Particular Place to Go”, “Bird Dog”, “ Love Potion No 9.”
“Tequila”, “Wake up Little Suzie”, “ Beep Beep” and “ Surfer Joe”
They all dressed up to the theme of the song and acted it out superbly.
The Original song was then televised for us to enjoy, in its original glory.
After the night, we all headed back to our cabins, unfortunately some got drenched walking home. Depending on your departure.
Breakfast Sunday: Was well organised and catered for by 8.15 by Esther and her team.
They had already cooked, eggs, sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs.
Tea and Coffee station ready to use.
We all enjoyed a lovely breakfast together and a chat.
We said our goodbyes and thanked Esther and Dennis, Bill and Lillian, Keith and Denise, Bev and Barry, who form the Social Committee of the Buick Car Club and John and Mirjam, Len and Fran who get roped in to everything! We then headed off on our way, to other destinations and some to home. Thank You Esther, Dennis and all the team for such a Great Weekend.
Your certainly put a great deal of effort into everything.
